It took me awhile to get just the right framing with so many elements to consider: the arches, brickwork, columns...And to not capture any people walking by this busy Argyle redline stop. I decided on selective coloring in the final result to draw attention to the busy pattern of movies for sale. As a photographer, I also, like the lone light on the left and riveted beam in the upper right corner. A week after I took this image, Taggers came and spray painted the word, "CUBA" all over the columns. That would have made a completely different picture.
I'll have to admit that generally I'm not a huge fan of selective colouring, but this is really good! rhys @ 2010-09-03 03:09:31
Excellent photo and perfect processed. frankdejol @ 2010-09-03 03:15:14
This is exactly the kind of photograph I have deep feeling for. The sense of a past still residing in the present and exerting its influence. Beautifully conceived and realized, Ken. Glenn @ 2010-09-03 06:57:41
It's good to see selective colouring in a subject where it works...and the columns make a magnificent contribution to the composition. Good one! george @ 2010-09-03 10:50:24
This is wonderful, you are so lucky that you got this one without the 'Cuba' all over it, it would have ruined the picture.
I first had to look if this was selective colouring....
Have a great weekend. Astrid @ 2010-09-03 11:04:01
Very nicely framed and the selective color works well here. Actually a nice metaphor for the relationship between old and new media. Turnbill @ 2010-09-03 11:40:21
fine job of selective coloring. it does really highlight the storefront. Otto K. @ 2010-09-03 13:36:37
Great work! The selective desaturation works really well in this image.
Crazy! this BW and colored picture is perfectly composed. Very original and pleasant.

Love the arches and the pitted crumbling concrete. Good use of selective color. Harry @ 2010-09-03 15:03:09
